Cranky

I don’t know if my foul mood has anything to do with being woken up to a dove stuck in the house, dogs chaotically trying to catch it with Ami yelling at them to stop or not, but I bet it didn’t help nor did the family room, living room, and kitchen being full of feathers, which is funny after yesterdays post.

I believe the main culprit is probably our impending vacation. I get cranky before a trip.  I deeply dislike being unprepared.  I have a mental checklist I go through 3 times at minimum before a trip to the store, so a trip out of the country has my brain in overdrive.  I would pack now and get it over with but I still have some vacation shopping to do and besides I don’t like to pack early because then I forget and make a mess while looking through it.

I just keep reminding myself of all of the fun and relaxation Der and I will be partaking in.  Poor me.

PS. The dove miraculously survived and flew out the kitchen window unassisted when I opened it.  Will to survive is a powerful thing!

Birds! Everywhere! Birds!

At the fair last week we stopped by the exotic photo booth.

The whole time they were getting there pictures taken I was thinking “I wish I could do that”.  It must have been all the junk food that kept me from thinking straight.

I took the top 2 pics, this one is from the booth.

As we were walking away my brain had a sudden surge and I realized I could get my picture with the birds too. DUH!

Der was taking behind the scenes pics for me.

I was so excited I thought I was going to pee myself.  I wanted to talk to all of the birds and pet them all, but the photo guy was trying to run a business so I behaved.

It wasn’t until we were on our way home and my food fog started to ease up that I realized we should have just done a family photo with the 5 of us.  Big Duh!

Same shirt, different day.

Little Miss Pearl and I.  She will have to be my macaw until I can afford the real thing.

She just smacked me in the face with her kung fu chicken wing.

This picture makes me laugh every time I see it.  I want to add sound effects.

Easter 2011 (Easter Basket Craft)

I wanted to make the easter baskets this year with the kids and start a tradition for future Easters.  I had limited time and resources since this was very last minute so after futzin around on the net trying to find something I decided to just freestyle this one.

I have a surplus of empty water jugs for refilling.  The perfect beginning.

I used an exacto knife to get the cut started but used scissors after that.

I pierced holes in both of the top strips using a potato and ice pick.

Then using an embroidery needle and yarn I stitched the two pieces together, creating a handle.

I hole punched both sides of the handle and all around the top of the basket.

When my hand got tired of squeezing the punchers, Derek finished.  Yeah Derek!

I gave the boys strips of bright yarn and a quick tutorial and forgot to pick up my camera again until the next day.

The boys left their baskets out for EB to fill the next day.  I think this will be a fun thing to add to our other traditions.

Like we color eggs easter day.

They each got to color 5 eggs.

All of our hens are brown layers so the only colors that really show are green and blue.  We don’t mind though, it’s just as fun, but tastes better.

As soon as the kids finish coloring, I make egg salad sandwiches.  It’s usually the only time of year we have it, which makes it taste that much better.

The fair

The giant 3 story fun house that  my kids love.  Moscow Circus?  Something like that.  I just want the bald statue in tights for my front yard.

This is only a small portion of the slide.  The slide scares me.  It’s 3 stories tall!  Even though logic tells me otherwise I fear becoming impossibly wedged stuck halfway down.  Then kids would try to go down after me and slam into the back of my head. I would be like the real world version the kid who got stuck in the pipe of the chocolate river on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory…except instead of getting shot out by chocolate pressure and then helped by Oompa Loompas, the fiasco would involve  the fire department, a large crowd, video cameras and then it would end up on the news and  then YouTube.  I want to be remembered but not for something like that.  So that’s why I kept my feet planted on the ground.

Best fair ride of all time no matter how old you are!

Jeremia is in the purple lane, his friend Brian is in the green, and Conrad is in the orange lane.

Ami went on it without his brothers because he was waiting for a red mat to slide down on.  And he chose the pink lane.  I thought he would be scared to go without one of us, but no my baby is growing up.

While the bigger boys went on the ferris wheel,

Ami and I were walking to the “roller coaster” (it goes in circles over small humps) he wanted to go on while Der was with the other boys. For no apparent reason Ami stopped in the middle of the walkway and said “Look mom.  I am a robot box”  He was all hunched and curled into a box with his head tucked in.  I took a picture, but it didn’t turn out.  It was a very realistic portrayal. I love random act of adorableness.  They are the bomb!

all by himself and in the very front.

I could have spent all night in the petting zoo.  I want to go back so I can do exactly that.  There were chickens, ducks, llamas, goats, a donkey, baby pot belly pigs, and even wallaby’s.  There were too many people and too much commotion to get as many pics as I wanted.  None of my pig attempts turned out.

Ami loves ducks so Conrad found some for him to pet.

This guy followed me around quite a bit.  I don’t know if he was looking for the opportunity to spit at me or if he was enjoying me saying “Do you like my moostache” over and over again in a very bad russian accent.

Flu…ugh.

I feel like I’ve lost 10 pounds, which isn’t a bad thing, except for the fact that it was involuntary and sucked ass!

A self portrait of me after my stomach declared war on my body.

I can neither confirm nor deny that this may be a slight exaggeration.  It might really just be a picture of one of the creatures from the haunted house at the fair.  I will never tell, but I assure you this is how I felt.

It’s Friday!

Taking the rodents to the county fair tonight.  They are super excited!  Jeremia gets to bring a friend because he had a great week and it was AIMS!  I bought the kids 10 rides for 10 bucks passes.  Derek and I are just excited about the exhibits and the horrible for you food.

Der and I are going on a 4 day cruise to Mexico for my birthday!  Sis is watching the rodents.  We have never been away from them that long.  That is craziness!  We are going to have so much fun and come home rested and recharged.  And the kids are going to have so much fun being spoiled by their Auntie! Can’t wait!

And here for you for no other reason than it’s friday and I can, I give you pure cuteness.

My kids always have food on their faces when I want to take their picture.  It does not deter from the cuteness for me though.

Have a great weekend!

Random backyard shots.

I love sidewalk chalk.

Creatures I made out of found objects for an art class.  I found all of this stuff in a junk box of Derek’s.  The bodies are wrapped in twisty ties.  They are inspecting my zucchini plants.

Jeremia created this teepee with found fence slats, strips of tree roots and one piece of wire to secure the top and I threw in an old sheet.  He is a fantastic creator of things!

If you look closely you can see crystals in the trees.  I hung them in there when the tree was bare.  Now it’s covered with gorgeous purple flowers.

Crystals hung in trees are a win/win.  They look cute in the trees AND they give you rainbows.  Rainbows are the bomb!  Nuff said.

Old stuff is so cool!

And in other news…

Her forever name is Bug.

I am sure you see why we call her that.

She is fun to take pics of.

Bug and her biggest fan.

PS I love that man!  He makes my heart pitter patter!  He is the shiz!

Um

Der must’ve been jealous of my relationship with Nilla because He brought this little dumpling home with him last night.  She is 4ish months old, sweet as pie and those bug eyes.  She can look in two directions at once.

We have been calling her Um (from Umbridge), but we are still open to names.  A buddy from work gave her to Der.

The hubs tries to tell people that the animals are all my fault, but he lies.  He is a bigger sucker than me.

And the window is all better.

Derek replacing the broken window.  Another buddy replaced the glass for a whopping 20 bucks.  Awesome!

I like Der’s buddies!

Procrastinate Now!

What I should be doing…

Deciding what’s for dinner.  I have no flippin idea.  I hate when I can’t pin down a craving and go from there.  It’s a nothing sounds good kind of day.  Boo!

The laundry!  I am not behind on it but I don’t want to be either.

Taking pictures.

Cleaning the back patio.

Calling places I don’t want to call.  I hate the phone.  I have a disease that is fairly common, but not well known and surprisingly enough not usually talked about.  It’s called verbal diarrhea.  I have it bad.  Once I start it’s hard to stop.  It can be easier to control in person, but it is impossible for me on the phone.  And then when you have to make business calls ick and stupid, stupid automated systems that never take you where you want to go quickly or easily.  Phones are a necessary evil in my opinion.

Painting!  I have five paintings in mid-paint limbo.  One is just for me so it can wait infinitely but the other FOUR are already paid for and need to be finished.  The good thing that has come from this is that I have figured out that even though I am half decent at painting, I don’t like it.  It’s a fight every time I paint.  It’s not relaxing or enjoyable. I thought I would come to like it, but no.  I’m gonna call it.  I don’t like it and once I have finished these I will not paint again…not on purpose anyway.

What I have been doing…

Watching lizards do push ups on the tree that hangs over my garden.  I took a natural history of the southwest bio class. It was one of my all time favorite classes.  In it I learned what it meant when they do that, but apparently it is one of the many facts I learned that my brain spit out just as soon as I passed the class.  I remember that I learnt it, but don’t remember what it meant.

Reading.  I just finished a book called Still Alice by Lisa Genova.  It’s about early onset Alzheimer’s disease (see previous paragraph).  I finished the book which is more than I can say about some.  If I am reading a book and I am not enjoying it, I will quit reading right there.  I will not hope as I read that it will get better and then be disappointed at the end that it sucked from beginning to end and wonder why I didn’t just stop reading it. I put the book down and walk away. This one though kept me reading. It was, I thought, a decent book, but I feel it could have been better in so many ways.  There were too many details about the mundane and not enough about the gritty stuff, which was a shame because there were perfect opportunities for it.  The story line was very interesting and had huge potential I think. But, PS. so you went to Harvard, that doesn’t mean you have to say it in every other sentence…and then your next book takes place in Harvard too have you never been anywhere else?…What the what?!?!

I stood and watched a finch and a sparrow fight over a branch.  The finch won.  I do not consider this time wasted.

Thinking of ways to get out of painting the already paid for paintings.  If it wouldn’t make me a total slime ball loser I would just give her, her money back and never, ever under any circumstances agree to paint again.

Goofing around with the camera.

And creating a post.

Cutest glasses ever!

I cannot help but want one of these.

I bet they are a pain to catch and hold onto.  It looks fake.  I wish I had springy legs like that!  That would be awesome!
