Happy Halloween

Ami and Conrad’s school had a Spooktacular Family Fun Night on Friday.  Derek and Jeremia were scarers in the haunted house.  I had planned on taking tons of pics but we were so busy there wasn’t time.  Luckily I got a couple of shots before we left.

They had so much fun scaring everyone.

I didn’t get a chance to go into the haunted house.  I was too busy being the Pocket Lady. I wore a giant apron with 8 or 9 huge pockets on it.  Each pocket had prizes.  For 2 tickets each kid got to pick a pocket for a prize.

We had a blast.

The Resurrection Begins

IMG_5443

The overgrown plants provided much-needed shade.  It was HOT.  We were melting and  sweating like big pigs. TMI?

Der had to change all of the tires, because it had been sitting for 7 years and the old ones had disintegrated.

IMG_5466

He made fast work of it.

IMG_5476

IMG_5485

He used ratchet straps to pull the square up onto the trailer. There was minimal pushing, which was great, because of the whole melting thing.

Jeremia and Der have been fiddling with it all week.  I am excited for the memories they are making together.

She looks happier already.

Bee Is For Brave

Derek thinks I’m nuts.  I don’t disagree.

IMG_5439

All I can say is they were super calm and I approached vvveeerrryyy slowly.

IMG_5447

IMG_5438

They were too busy working to pay me any mind.

IMG_5452

I love how the comb looks like petals, rounded at the edges.

IMG_5451

I remember the hive being much bigger last time.  Fear has a way of distorting memories. It’s been in Der’s mom’s backyard for years.  In times past I steered clear of it.  This time, for whatever reason, I allowed myself to stop and admire the beauty of it and forgot to be afraid.

Scenes From Our Backyard

This little guy has seen better days.  I never realized their bodies have white polka dots.

IMG_5584

I feel so blessed that I got to hold him.

Signs of fall.

IMG_5295

I bought 2 of these flowering vines on clearance. They’ve been doing really well.

IMG_5414

Let’s hope I remember to cover them when the weather calls for freezing temps.

Say Hello To My New Friend

She’s my newest dress form.  I like her imperfections.

IMG_5390

Thanks Goodwill!

IMG_5401

I have no idea how old she is.  She has no markings.  Google did not help. Anybody have a guess?

IMG_5404

I love the painted fence so much.  It makes the perfect backdrop.  I hope you aren’t tired of seeing it yet.

Halloween Decorations

We had some fun making simple Halloween decorations.

We made bats and spiders using black paper plates, elmers glue and construction paper. We also made candy corn.

IMG_5365

Nothing fancy just cutting an glueing.  We had a lot of fun with it though.

And Jeremia had us cracking up with his.

It says “I’m a social worker.  I have bad social skills”

JP spent a lot of time on his social worker. He’s even holding a little briefcase with the tip of his wing.

We hung it all up in the alcove out front.

Ben’s Bells

If you don’t know the story of Ben’s Bells you should click here.

I have wanted a Ben’s Bell since I found out about them.

Twice a year volunteers hang these signature bells randomly around Tucson for passersby to find and keep. They are in memory of a little boy name Ben (I have a soft spot for Bens) and serve as a reminder that we should be kind just for the sake of it.

I found one.  Not where I imagined I would, but at Goodwill. Though I have no idea why anyone would want to get rid of their bell, I was happy to snatch it up.  I may have even gasped, but that could also be because I saw it as I was tripping into the display of windchimes where it was buried.

IMG_5308

Now it hangs happily on our back porch.

I love it.  I love it.  I love it.

A Note From Conrad

Yesterday, when I picked Conrad up from school, he was writing something I wasn’t allowed to look at.  He folded it between his other papers and told me not to look. In the car he asked for a pen from my purse so he could finish.  He told me, when he handed me the finished note, to ask him if I couldn’t read something.  I did pretty good and only needed help with a few words.

IMG_5312

IMG_5313

According to C it should read as follows,

“Conrad

Mom I

love you.

This is

me Conrad

I hope you

like this note

you’re fun to

play with and

you make good

food.  If

you like this

note yes or

no.”

I melted right there.  My heart turned to mush.  Done for.

And here are some pics of Conrad entertaining us with bits and pieces he found while driving in the car another day.

Gifts From Afar

The boys just got a package in the mail from one of their past nannies, Melissa. She sent them these cute outfits.

IMG_5324

So glad we painted the fence.  It makes the perfect backdrop.

IMG_5331

Could they be any cuter?

IMG_5342

IMG_5344

They make me so happy.

IMG_5360

Betcha can’t guess where Melissa’s from.

Thanks Melis!  It was the perfect reason for a photo shoot.
