Time?!

This week has been insanely busy and I’m grateful for the weekend.  I’ve been neglecting SW.  I feel bad about it, but I ‘ve just had too much going on.  I’m exhausted.  I’d take a nap, but then I won’t sleep tonight.

Keegan is here for a visit :) YAY!  It’s so nice to have him here.  We are hoping to do something fun this weekend.  Biodome?  Caverns?  Monster Trucks?  Hmmm…choices, choices.

I haven’t made a single piece of art this week and it’s been wwwaaaayyyy too long since I’ve done a project with the boys.  I need to make that happen!  It will be fun to do one with Keegan while he’s here, if I can just stir up the energy.

I doubt I will post anything this weekend, but hopefully we will create lots of “bloggable moments” for next week.

Until then please enjoy Jeremia looking too much like a teenager for my personal comfort.  Where does all of the time go?!?!?

Wishing you all a fantabulous weekend and hoping my absence makes your hearts grow fonder as opposed to bored.

Love,

Amy

Of Words and Mushrooms

I have been embroidering on dictionary pages lately.

This page has the definition of word on it.

This one defines drug.

Though they both basically say the same thing, the second one is my favorite.

I also made a mushroom.

Making these is meditative.  I sit, listen to audio books and sew.  It’s very relaxing, except for the part where my fingers get sore.

Check them out in my Esty shop.

Just Peachy

Ahhhhhh, peach blossoms, I love you so…almost as much as I’ll love eating the peaches you will bring.

Delicious!

Gorgeous Ashley

The other day I had the pleasure of taking photos of my friend Patti’s daughter, Ashley.

I took over 100 shots.  Here are just a few of my favorites.  I had a hard time narrowing it down.

Ashley is a well grounded sweetheart.

I am a novice at this and still learning how to give direction, but she made my job easy.

The photos are for Ashley’s quinceanera invitations.  I am excited to see which ones they choose.

She’s so photogenic!

This was the last shot I took and is also my very favorite.

Thank you Patti and Ashley for the great afternoon!  I had so much fun! I can’t wait until you need photos again :D .

Just Cuz

When I asked why they were wearing their helmets to play outside, they shrugged and said “just cuz”.

Creative ADD and I Love My Husband

I have creative ADD.  I lose focus too easily.  I work on a project full throttle until I think of another project that seems like more fun.  Then I skip to the new idea until it becomes boring and I abandon it for a third creative endeavor.  This cycle goes round and round.  I keep 3 or 4 projects (at least) going until one by one they either get finished or forgotten.

Most of the time I have more ideas than I can process.

Here are just a few of the things I am “working” on now.

Covering my stained and battered dress dummy with vintage patterns.

I will finish her…the question is when.

Making paper bowls using tissue paper and/or book pages.

They are really cool, but take a llllooooonnnnnnggggg time and are MESSY.

There is a lot of time spent waiting for them to dry enough for the next layer.

They needed a few more layers, but I was tired of the clutter.

Just look at my “desk”.

Then there’s this cool bracelet.

It’s actually an empty roll of duct tape that I wrapped with embroidery floss.  I wanted to finish it the rest of the way with black, to create a checkered effect, but I am not 100% pleased with it so can’t motivate myself to finish it.

I have Der saving empty tape rolls for me at work, in case I decide to try making more.

Speaking of Der.  I asked him how I could drill holes in silverware for another potential project I have.  The next thing I knew he had set up his drill press and grinder on the back patio for me. He is so helpful.

If I have an idea, but am unsure how to make it happen he always helps.  AND he doesn’t lose patience with me when I switch from one thing to another on a whim. NOR does he pester me about my creative messes.

How did I get so lucky?

Spray Paint Makes Everything Better

I think so anyway.

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend.  I took photos for a friend on Saturday. That was fun.  I will share some of them later this week.

Sunday I woke up with a nasty headache that stuck around all day.  Yuck!

Today Ami is home with a fever.  Double yuck!

Tomorrow Derek leaves for a 4 day conference in Vegas. Triple yuck!

It’s only Monday and I can’t wait for the weekend.

Peppers And Peckers…Oh My

Inspired title courtesy of Der :D .

Look at all those yummy peppers.  I didn’t grow them, but I wish I did.  I sautéed some with garlic and onion and threw them in the mix for chicken enchiladas.  D.e.l.i.c.i.o.u.s!  I chopped and froze the rest for another day.

Fresh sweet basil growing in our back yard.  I can’t wait!

Gary, out for a stroll while his pen was being cleaned.

Der cut up some bruised apples and put them in the feeder, much to this Gila Woodpecker’s delight.  Or as Ami called her “peckwooder”…snort laugh.  Whatever her name she is lovely and quite the acrobat.

Tucson Festival of Books…sort of

Last weekend we went to the giant Festival of Books here in Tucson.  We had never been before, but heard wonderful things about it.  I brought my camera but only snapped 2 shots and they were while we were walking to the festival.  Once there, we were so busy visiting the booths and maneuvering through the crowds that I didn’t even think about my camera.

I don’t generally care for crowd bathing.   I usually steer clear when confronted with a sea of people, but my curiosity was peaked so we braved the throng.  I am glad we did.  The boys had so much fun and learned a ton of cool stuff.  They got to pet snakes and a tortoise, spin wheels for prizes, make DNA strands from licorice and marshmallows, plant seeds, got free books, learned how stars (the ones in the sky) are born and a ton of other cool stuff.

We will go back next year, but probably first thing in the morning.

Here are the two photos I took.

I love his little smirk.  He has since had a haircut and hates me for it.

Conrad has more ham and cheese than a delicatessen and Ami is just sweet.

Repurposed Folding Closet Doors

I scored 4 of these metal, folding closet doors for a total of $12.

I had seen them for about a month at my favorite thrift store.  I was drawn to them, but couldn’t think what to do with them.  My general rule when thrifting is, if I can’t think of at least one use for it, I won’t get it.  There are always exceptions, but I try hard to follow that guideline, for fear of becoming a hoarder.

I would stare at them each time I was at the shop.  I liked their color and knew I could get them for a good price, but didn’t know what I would do with them.  And then finally inspiration struck.

I decided they would make great shelves.

We separated the doors and stacked them on cinder blocks.  Sometime in the future I may get around to painting the blocks.  I’m thinking charcoal.

The shelves are kind of bare now, but will fill up in no time, I’m sure.
