Fun With Felt: Wreaths

The prep work for these was much faster and easier than the trees.

I used pinking shears to cut felt into squares.

The boys used needle and thread to string them.

They added silver beads ever few squares or whenever they remembered.

We made these right after the trees and I think they were relieved not to have to concentrate so much.

I think they turned out really cute and I love how colorful they are.

Jeremia being an adorable goofball.

I’m such a lucky mom.

Fun With Felt: Christmas Trees

I found the inspiration at Walmart and thought it would be a fun project for the boys.

This project took a lot of prep work.

At first I looked around the house for round things to use as templates.  I quickly realized that wasn’t the most effective way.  Enter the amazing and versatile toilet paper roll.

I cut them down the center.

Then cut them into thirds.

And finally made them into various sized circles with scotch tape.

For the bigger circles, I taped two bits of roll together.

Because felt is a nightmare to trace things on, I used a stamp pad. It helped speed up the process.

I stacked the felt when I cut the circles to save time.  3 pieces was the magic number to cut through. When I tried to do 4  they came out a little too sloppy.

The boys were concentrating so hard.  This was Ami and Conrad’s first time using a needle and thread.  They kept accidentally pulling their needle off of the thread.  After about the 6th time of re-threading Conrad’s I looked over and saw him licking his needle trying to make the thread go through.  He’d seen me do it so many times, but didn’t realize I’d been licking the thread, not the needle.  The cuteness overwhelmed me.

I gave them the circles stacked in order. They started with the biggest one and work up to the smallest with each shade of green.

They  kept forgetting to add a bead between each disc. They each had to go back and redo the ones they missed several times.

They look like they weren’t having fun, but they were just focussed.

I made the stumps and stars to save time and hot glued the snow on.

Conrad and Ami gave theirs to their teachers for Christmas. They were a big hit.

I like ours more than the original one.

Paper Box

I saw this one on Pinterest and HAD to make my own.

I made it while watching An Affair To Remember.  I’d never seen it.  Such a good movie.  I’ll forever be reminded of it when I look at this fun little creation.

I asked Ami what I should put in it and he said “something very special to you”.  When I told him he wouldn’t fit in it he laughed and said, “No, something small.”  He’s so patient with silly old me.

It’s amazing what can be created with paper and glue. The possibilities are endless.

Tonight I made another one while watching Jane Eyre.  Netflix is lame for being so greedy, but I do love the convenience of it.

Christmas Cards

I had wanted to do homemade cards, but time got away from me, so I compromised.

We all sat together, for about 30 minutes, and made our fingerprint birds.

I think they turned out super cute.

It turned a normally a chore-like task into family fun.

We may have a new family tradition.

Send me your address, if you want to be on our Christmas card list :).

Can you believe the SIZE of that egg?  The one on the left is a normal everyday egg.  Why the one on the right looks like it’s on steroids I can’t say.  I may have gasped when I saw it.

I thought for sure it was a double yolker, but it was just one giant yolk.

Here’s a useless fact:

The world record for yolks in one egg is 9.

I can’t imagine the size of the egg they came in.  Yowza!

Komplete Klutz

I made this as a gift for someone.

I wonder if they’ll ever get it though, because every time I touch it, I break a ball.  When I first made it, I dropped it.  As I am sure you can guess, that did not end well.  Luckily I had a bunch of extra ornaments and was able to fix it.

Now if I can just get it to the recipient without breaking any more…I am not overly optimistic.

Next year I am making plastic ones!

I like this shot even though it’s a bad photo.  It makes me think of jellyfish.

I am living proof that you don’t need to be graceful to be creative.  I’m sure it would be helpful, but I’ll never know.

Organized Chaos

Today I:

went to have lunch with Ami at the student of the month luncheon.

volunteered in both Ami and Conrad’s classrooms ran home and brought 2 baby chickens back to share with their classes…finally.

tried to make a dent in the laundry pile.

filled out Christmas cards.  I had wanted to do something super cute, but there just isn’t enough time in the day.

tried to de-clutter my projects table…that is laughable since just as soon as I clear something away new stuff replaces it.

helped with homework

And now I have to figure out what is for dinner.

And maybe tomorrow I will actually take some photos and have the kids do 2 of the projects that need to get done before friday.
