Happy 2nd Birthday Simplywe!

I’m supposed to be doing my homework, so naturally I am using this time to check my email, fb and simplywe.  And though I wish I was still doing my homework and didn’t have the attention span of a gnat, I’m glad I checked because I almost missed Simplywe’s birthday!  SW came to be 2 years ago today!

I have been so busy with everything else in my life, I didn’t plan anything.  This should be where I put a montage of some of my favorite photos, but if I get lost in looking at old photos now, I’ll never do my homework.  I must fight the procrastination…clearly I am not as successful as I would like.

So instead I will share hiking photos, and a few from my solo trip to Prescott.

I took all of these with my iPhone, as I sent my Canon to Keegan in Germany.  I think he will get more use out of it than I will, since I haven’t used it in months.  The iPhone is so much more convenient.

These 1st 3 are from my trip to Prescott.

It rained and rained and rained the whole time I was there, mostly misty rain.  It was beautiful.  The fog was intense.  This fog was at 4 in the afternoon.

This one is from the hike we took at orientation.  How many colleges go on a hike as part of orientation?  I think I have chosen wisely.

The other weekend Der and I took a 5.2 mile hike in Tucson Mountain Park.

These are from our new favorite part of the park.

I don’t know why this one is so grainy, but I sure do love that guy!

The small upcropping of buildings, in the far off distance, is downtown Tucson.

Der and I make a good hiking team.

The rest of these are from various hiking trips.

Bug loves her hikes.

I’ve painted several batches of rocks and left them in random places on the trail.

I like to imagine the finders curious smile when they wonder who did that.

Happy Birthday Simplywe!

I heart Tucson!

Random Photos, that took me forever to finally share

Even though I wish with every fiber of my being that we had grass, or the time/money it will take to create a lawn, I still dig our backyard, especially on a cloudy day

I love our trees.

From a sunny, rainy day.

Playing in the rain is so much fun!

I adore it when they are sweet to each other.

I love my sister!

This is the volume knob on the headphones in the library.  All I see is a happy monkey.

This is what I look like when I accidentally lock myself out of my house, but am lucky enough to have my phone to call hubby, and to amuse myself with by taking photos until hubby saves me.

This is what confused wuppy looks like, when she just wants me to come in already and pet her.

This is a real, live caterpillar that looks like bird poop.  It turns into a Swallowtail butterfly.

An instagram collage.

Some lovely butterflies at the Desert Museum.  I want to get that kind of milkweed in our front yard.  It was COVERED with these beauties.

Until next time

2012 in review

Again, WordPress.com has supplied me with a summation of my blogs activities for this past year, which I have shared with the link at the bottom.

Though I faltered, and have been less dedicated to posting regularly, I still love it here.  With all my heart.

With this new year I will be taking on big goals, head on.  I am scared.  Taking leaps terrifies me to my core, but that is all the more reason I need to do it. I have put this blog on the back burner and it will remain there.  It’s not to say that I don’t have a t0n of ideas for great blogs, because I do, I just lack the focus, followthrough and time that’s required to make them happen.  As it is I am posting photos months after they were taken, only because it took me that long to get around to blogging them, not because they aren’t important to me.

2013 will have blog posts, of that I am sure, but I have no idea how many or how few and far between.  I love each and everyone of you who has stuck around through the thick and the thin, whether constant or sporadic and I welcome all new readers with hope you will like what you see and come back often.  I cherish every comment, every subscription and every like, and am grateful for the ability to share glimpses of our lives, with the added bonus of having a digital scrapbook.

I wish you all health, wealth, happiness and love, this New Year, and always!

Here’s an excerpt:

4,329 films were submitted to the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. This blog had 13,000 views in 2012. If each view were a film, this blog would power 3 Film Festivals

Simple Drink Storage Solution

We are lucky enough to have enough room, in our kitchen, for 2 refrigerators.  One is our everything fridge and the other is our drink/overflow fridge.  If you have a large family and enough room in your kitchen, I highly recommend 2 fridges!

Before, whenever I tried to put cans or bottles in the door they would fall over and jerk around each time I opened the door.  And then I did this…

I saved the 4 and 6 pack carriers from beer and wine coolers.  We very rarely drink so it took me a while to get these 3.

Now the drinks all have their own cozy spots and I can stack them two high in the back, without having them fall every time I open the door.

All Souls Procession 2012

I’ve wanted to participate in Tucson’s All Souls Procession for several years, but could never follow through, until this year.

If you don’t know what the All Souls Precession is click here for the history.  It was actually created by one of my drawing teachers in college, over 20 years ago.  It has grown with each passing year and is now HUGE, like-miles-long-HUGE!

It’s a wonderful way to honor those you love, who have gone on before you.

There is walking art EVERYWHERE!  Every float is human powered.  It was hard to get a lot of photos during the procession, but here are a few.

As I said this was our first year, and though I knew it would be amazing, I was a little intimidated and unsure of what to expect.

I found out one of  the great things about the procession is that you can move freely through it, if you want to step out and take a break you can, and then you jump right back in whenever you’re ready.  Because Ami’s legs get tired quickly these days (all that supersonic growing) we mostly watched.

I painted all of our faces.  I had no idea what I was doing.  I just kind of winged it.  Ami and Conrad were the hardest, because they’re twitchy and squiggly and move all over no matter how hard they try to hold still.

I like how they turned out, and judging by all of the people taking our photos at the procession, so did everyone else.

Driving in the car to the procession.  I pulled down the visor to check my makeup and a yellow butterfly fluttered out.

Derek and I both got teary eyed and I said “Hello Benny”.  It was such a beautiful moment and I will treasure it forever!  Thank you for staying with us always, Benny.  You are thought about and loved every single day!

We can’t wait to honor Benny next year with pink flying piggies.

The All Souls Procession was such an uplifting experience!  I am glad we finally made it there and we will be back every year from now on!!!  If you ever get the chance to go, don’t hesitate, just do it!  You’ll be glad you did.

Costumes…late

I have almost always been one of two things for Halloween.  When I was super young all I ever wanted to be was a witch and then all I ever wanted to be was a punk rocker.  This year when I had to dress up for the halloween dance at Ami and Conrad’s school, I went with what I know.  I am a creature of habit.

Derek went as a tourist, and I have no photos, because I am lame and didn’t take any.

Here’s the one and only pic I have of the boys on Halloween .  I was a total slacker.

Aren’t they adorable!  I love them so much I could just pop.

Until…

As you may have noticed, I have not been posting.  I want to quit blogging for a bit.  I have tons of blog ideas, but just am not motivated to post them.  I am tired of thinking about life in terms of blogable moments.  When it stops being fun and starts feeling like a chore, that’s when I check out.  There are so many truly great blogs out there that will happily welcome you to their little chunk of the internet.

I don’t know if I will be back in a week, a month, or even a year.  I will come back if I miss it badly enough…I won’t if I don’t.  Thank you all for coming back time after time, for emailing me, for leaving comments, and for cheering me on.  There is no way to express how wonderful you have all made me feel.  I wish you all health, wealth, and happiness. xoxo

Here are some fantastic blogs to fill your free time.  Be careful though, they are addicting.

Geninne is a very talented artist who shares her wonderful photo skills and gorgeously sweet art at this  quick photo blog.

For some humorous nonsense check out Jenny Larson, The Bloggess, she happily shares her bucket of crazy and I love it.

Meg Duerksen over at Whatever is fabulous.  She is a normal everyday mom, raising her 5 kids in fantastic art filled, thrifted, crafty gloriousness.

Pioneer Woman is a blogging superstar.  I don’t know how she fits so much into each day.  Check her blog out for some delish down home/sophisticated cooking and for a sneak peak at ranch living…there’s never a dull moment that’s for sure!

Head on over to the Artful Parent for some serious kid craft inspiration.  A bunch of her craft ideas are on my to-do-in-the-near-future list.
