Photo A Day?

Thinking about just posting a photo a day….maybe.  How’s that for noncommital?

This is the view from the stone house at the end of the Stone House Trail in the Tucson Mountain foothills.

*Bonus photo:  My fellow hikers-cozy at the hearth.

*Bonus, bonus photo:  Ami compares his height to this saguaro.

I couldn’t stop at 1.  Clearly I have no self control.

Hello

I have been saving these photos to share for 2 months.

I don’t have the energy to be melodramatic and express how insanely busy my life currently is.

Self induced, organized? chaos.

So instead of all that, I thought I would share my photos and we can take a moment just to breath and think happy thoughts.  We don’t take nearly enough of those kinds of moments.

I made these Junkmail/magazine snowflakes and hung them in January to add bright winter cheer.

We took a trip to Ben’s Bells and painted beads.

Conrad’s note he wrote for Newtown, CT.

We launched more rockets.  Everybody got a turn to launch their own.

I love my life.

Trail Riding In Pinetop

Trail riding together as a family was so much fun.

Der taught the boys to skip rocks at a little watering hole.  We saw bear tracks right at the waters edge.

Conrad and I missed the memo telling us that is was green T-shirt day.

Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch 2 of 2

The folks over there are brilliant!

IMG_7514

The goat penthouse was ingenious!  Ami kept going back to feed them in the penthouse.

IMG_7674

First you put food in the cup (a wiffle ball with the top cut off).  Next you crank the wheel (sandbuggy rims with handles) and the giant belt takes the snack up to the goats.

IMG_7513

IMG_7521

The goats get all excited as the ball get closer and closer.

IMG_7522

They also have goats you can hand feed and pet.

IMG_7587

They look like bunch of mounted goat heads at first, which is disturbing, but then it’s just funny to see them clambering to be the near the food.

IMG_7598

We all took turns kissing them.  Actually we were holding food between our teeth for them, which sounds grosser than it was.

Next we fed the deer.

We all want one for a pet now…not that we are ever going to get one, but we can pretend.

IMG_7613

They are so sweet, gentle and cute.  Like goats they only have teeth on the bottom in front.  I did not investigate the backs of their mouths, but it’s a pretty safe bet that they have top teeth in back.

IMG_7624

And because we love making out with animals some of us fed them with our mouths too.

IMG_7615

It cracks me up how this one looks like it’s going to eat JP’s face.

Two things I know about this photo:

1. I love nuzzling with deer.

2. I need a hair cut!

IMG_7511

I didn’t even have food in my mouth for this one.  I think we might be engaged.

The deer were my favorite, but the larkeets were a close second.

IMG_7764

They flock to you the second they see nectar cups in your hands.

IMG_7725

This is me trying to open the nectar cups for the boys.  I learned later that the birds will take the lid off themselves if you hold it for them.

IMG_7763

That expression is priceless.

Bucket-O-Crazy

We tried to enroll the boys in sports this weekend.  Conrad and Ami in soccer and Jeremia in flag football.  I could write an essay about the trip to crazy town we experienced as we tried to get them signed up, but I’ve spent enough time trying to wrap my brain around the whole debacle.

Let me just say that on no planet will we let any of our kids play for a coach who says

“I yell a lot. I yell at the kids to run faster, or I will cut their heads off, but they know I won’t really.”

What the what!?

He said that while his wife stood there nodding and smiling.  Living in that house must be tons of fun. 😦

Derek and I were dumbfounded.  We kept asking each other if that really just happened.  The sad answer was yes…yes it did.  To avoid that giant bucket-o-crazy we have decided instead to do family sports on Sundays.

Today we went to the park rallied up some of the kids there and all played kickball.

I was too busy playing kickball to take shots of the games, but here are some from before and after.

IMG_7074

Der warmed some of the kids up with dodgeball.

IMG_7076

And some kicking practice.

Jeremia helped Ami and Conrad get drinks from the water fountain.

IMG_7094

He kept turning the water up high so it would shoot them in the face.  That’s what siblings are for.

IMG_7099

Der showed Jeremia he still has skills.

IMG_7116

IMG_7097

No trip to the park is complete without playground time.

The kids circle around to discuss the rules of freeze tag.

It was a gorgeous day.  We all had a blast and not once did anybody threaten to cut anyone’s head off.

Snow Day

This is one of those posts where I hope your internet connection is super fast, because there are a ton of photos.

We live less than an hour from Mt. Lemmon.  It’s one of the many perks of living in Tucson.

IMG_6472

IMG_6476

In a matter of a few miles the scenery changes from beautiful, saguaro filled mountains, to gorgeous pine trees and snow.

Ami’s sled is a trash can lid.

IMG_6538

He’s my brooder.  That’s his broody face.  I think he was having trouble deciding if he should keep making snow angels, sled some more, or build a snowman.  Seriously.  I kept telling him there was plenty of time to do all three.

It’s amazing how much fun can be had without spending a dime.

IMG_6568

IMG_6572

Jermia and Der were throwing snow onto the suburban.

IMG_6577

These guys are Bob the Blob, and Eduardo.  Jeremia made and named them.  They stayed on the bumper almost all of the way home.

IMG_6574

They’re teasing me because I kept telling them all not to eat the snow.

IMG_6588

IMG_6612

I love the icicles all over the rocks.

IMG_6616

IMG_6581

We had SO MUCH FUN!

The boys thanked us over and over and Ami and Conrad said it was the best day ever.

Family fun days are the best!

Christmas Cards

I had wanted to do homemade cards, but time got away from me, so I compromised.

IMG_6278

We all sat together, for about 30 minutes, and made our fingerprint birds.

I think they turned out super cute.

IMG_6280

It turned a normally a chore-like task into family fun.

IMG_6283

We may have a new family tradition.

Send me your address, if you want to be on our Christmas card list :).
